Komori Sprint 228 Dampening Motor Not Working

We had this recurring problem where the dampening motor stops in the middle of production. Sometimes it comes back on after restarting the machine. Sometime we need to nudge it a bit to jumpstart spinning.

When it decided to just not work, we had a tech check out the motor. The armature was filled with oil/grease causing a ground. Luckily, as some in the other posts had encountered, oil/grease did not infiltrate the encoder. After putting it back together, the motor still did not turn.

After numerous tries and multiple electrical swaps with the motor from the first unit, we we found out the following

- when lines/connections were swapped with the first unit, the motor in question jerked every time the switch was either turned on or switched to inch. It did not completely turn because apparently connections (plug) to the second unit only had wires for the power. The connections for the encoder was in another set of plug.

- when lines were checked for power, we discovered that the power output was in single phase (instead of three phase)

So we concluded that the amplifier must be fried thus causing it to go to single phase. The amplifier is a Fuji Electric DES 200c-Z1.

We don't have a manual for the amplifier. If anyone could help us secure one, it would be truly appreciated. In the mean time we're diving in head first and will try to repair this on our own. There's no certified komori tech in our parts so we're doing this blindly. crossing our fingers too!!

The most common issue with the DES200C is small power supply inside the controller there are some small filter capacitors on this power supply, the power supply supplies the 5V, 13V and 3 or 4 supplies to the IBGT module.
Have you proved that it is the controller and not the motor the encoder disk can get oil on them.
Alternatively I have two refurbished DES controllers

 

Sorry for the late reply but yes we also checked the brushes when we took apart the motor. Grease was all over the place so we cleaned it thoroughly. Still motor did not function. But all iswell now. Will post update at the end of this thread.

Yes it’s confirmed the controller is the problem and not the encoder on the motor. Will keep you on my list in case our “solution” konks out.

Here’s an update a month after…

Called in tech (not Komori certified) who has somewhat vast experience in Komoris. The first thing he said over the phone after he was informed of the situation was “problem is with the controller. We’ll put in an inverter.”

He came in, installed the inverter, transferred some connections from the controller to the inverter and boom the thing worked. Did it in less than 30 mins. Everything functions correctly.

Although it’s not the ideal solution, the thing worked seamlessly. I asked if he could repair the controller, he said he had 2 other controllers on his work desk needing repairs.

Here's another update. Apparently, the installed inverter has limited the speed of the machine. We cannot run faster than 6000. Will seek other solutions.
